RoadChef Costa Coffee launches free motorway Wi-Fi
People travelling across the UK can now enjoy free Wi-Fi at 29 RoadChef Costa Coffee motorway service areas. RoadChef are the first motorway service area operator to provide free access to high speed wireless broadband. It will be available 24 hours a day to travellers visiting the RoadChef network. With annual UK car journeys clocking up 400 billion kilometres for the first time, the service will allow drivers and their passengers the opportunity to stop driving and start surfing whilst enjoying a relaxing coffee break.
Customers will be able to log onto BT Openzone from any wireless-enabled device including laptops, handhelds and Sony PSP gaming consoles. The free service will provide access to company networks, email, VoIP calls and even internet games.
The service will enable business travellers to stay connected and productive whilst on the move. Latest figures show that almost two thirds of business travellers (64%) claim that their employers expect them to be as productive when travelling on business as in the office. The same research found that over half of workers (55%) have also seen time spent out of the office increase over the past two years pointing to an increasing demand for regular remote corporate network and email access.
Simon Turl, Chief Executive of RoadChef, commented: "The introduction of free Wi-Fi at all of our areas makes RoadChef a great place to take a break from your journey. With Costa Coffee also available at every location catching up on your emails on a motorway journey has never been easier".
The BT hotspot estate now includes more than 2,500 Openzone hotspots, 12 wireless cities and BT FON, which has more than 70,000 members. BT Business Total Broadband hotspots will be added later this quarter as business customers opt into the Wi-Fi community. The network can be accessed using a range of vouchers and subscriptions.
