Free BT Wi-Fi in Heathrow T4 Skyteam passenger lounge

Free Wi-Fi from BT Openzone is now live for SkyTeam passengers using the new co-branded SkyTeam alliance lounge at London Heathrow's Terminal 4.

Following a new three-year agreement, passengers can now surf, work, game or make cheaper VoIP calls before their flights using any wireless-enabled device. For added convenience, travellers will connect to BT Openzone from the SkyTeam branded landing page, without an access voucher.

SkyTeam, the global airline alliance partnering 10 members (see below), has created a 'home-away-from-home' for passengers awaiting departure out of Terminal 4 - a place to work, relax, or catch up on reading.

Francesca Freeland, lead for SkyTeam Heathrow Airport team said: "The premium lounge was designed to offer customers a superior experience that meets their individual needs, and with complimentary Wi-Fi internet access, passengers can stay connected while awaiting departure. Opening the first level of the lounge is extremely significant for SkyTeam as we become one step closer to transforming Terminal 4 at London Heathrow into the first-ever airport facility truly centred around the alliance and its passengers."

Chris Bruce, general manager, BT Openzone, said: "Wi-Fi is essential for business and leisure travellers wanting to be productive or relax online before their flights. We've also added over 10,000 international hotspots in the last year to help international travellers stay connected wherever they are."

BT is seeing huge demand for Wi-Fi in the leisure and hospitality sector. Customers can also connect at over 190,000 residential and commercial hotspots in the UK and Ireland including BAA airports, BA lounges, Caffe Nero, Hilton, Thistle and Ramada Jarvis hotels and, from July 2009, Starbucks coffee stores.

The SkyTeam service is free however travellers can connect at more than 50,000 sites worldwide through BT's roaming partners using the BT international Wi-Fi voucher. At £28 for 500 Wi-Fi minutes over 14 days, the cost of downloading a large digital file when roaming can be reduced to as little as 12p per megabyte. Some mobile operators can charge as much as £10.00.
